Employer's Information

When setting up the scheme, we wanted to encourage as many companies to participate as possible. To achieve this we were particularly sensitive to the time and costs a company may need to incur to participate. Given this thought has been given to the way the scheme operates in order to achieve maximum efficiency from both WED and the employers perspective.

The placement can be tailored to each individual company requirements and thus can run from as little as 1 week. Generally we do however encourage a longer work experience opportunity for the individual to enable the employee to settle into the workplace and attain a good understanding of its operations and for the employer to be able to have an adequate opportunity to provide some valuable input and assess the employee whilst on their placement.

Naturally because this is a work experience opportunity it is communicated to the individuals participating that a salary is not offered to them whilst on the placement. However we do leave it at the companies discretion if they decide to do otherwise. Everyday expenses such as travel and lunch expenses are generally covered for by the companies participating. Generally an accommodation allowance is not provided and it is up to the individual to arrange their accommodation whilst on the placement, but again this is at the companies discretion.

Because the work experience opportunity is tailored to each individual companies requirement we discuss the selection process with you. Generally however, the employees are asked to submit a copy of their curriculum vitae along with a covering letter explaining which position they wish to apply for; why they are interested in the particular position, what skills they think they can bring to the company and finally we ask them to tell us a bit about the organisation they are applying to. Once all applications have been received, we can either arrange for the applications to be sent directly to your organisation or we can review the applications on your behalf and invite those we think are suitable candidates for the position up for an interview. Again we generally encourage this to be at the company offering the placement to enable the candidates to see the working environment.

If an employee is successful in attaining a placement with your company we will review with you any specific needs the individual may have. This may for example be specific equipment to enable the person to do their role successfully. Any specific disability awareness training will also be given to those staff within your oganisation that are likely to interact with the person.
